8 Ways to Relieve Morning Sickness

TCE Baby16 April 202414

When it comes to morning sickness in early pregnancy, it's common and usually starts around the 4th week, peaking around the 9th, and often subsiding by the 12th week. However, its severity varies for each person.

Light to moderate sickness cases can be relieved by yourselves quite easily, while severe cases will need medical help to be relieved. Here are the ways that you can follow to relieve morning sickness.

For light to moderate cases:

1. Eat something before getting up to stabilize blood sugar.

2. Have smaller, frequent meals to avoid hunger-triggered nausea.

3. Go for light, easily digestible foods, avoiding strong smells.

4. Consider remedies like multivitamins, vitamin B6-rich foods, or ginger.

5. Experiment with different foods or drinks to find what works for you.

6. Chew slowly and avoid lying down immediately after eating.

7. Stay hydrated, aiming for 1500-1900 ml of water daily.

8. Avoid triggering smells and record them to steer clear in the future.

For severe cases:

Look for medical help if vomiting is uncontrollable, accompanied by weight loss exceeding 5% of pre-pregnancy weight, dizziness, fainting, or vomiting blood. This could mean hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that requires medical attention to prevent further problems.

Remember, light to moderate morning sickness won't harm your baby's development, but severe cases require immediate medical attention. Don't hesitate to seek help if needed.
