Exercise During Pregnancy: Tips and Advices to Try Out

TCE Baby19 April 202445

Why Exercise?

Even during pregnancy, moderate exercise is good for both expecting mothers and their babies. It improves blood circulation, reduces discomforts like constipation and swelling, and helps control weight gain. Exercise also lowers the risk of gestational diabetes and high

blood pressure, reduces stress, stabilizes mood, and helps in postpartum recovery.

Timing and Intensity

Experts recommend that pregnant women without complications should engage in moderate exercise for 30 minutes, five days a week. This means being able to talk while exercising without feeling overly breathless.

Exercise Tips

Always warm up before exercising and stretch afterward. Wear comfortable workout clothes and avoid exercising when it's too hot, on an empty stomach, or when feeling hungry. Stop exercising immediately and seek medical attention if you are experiencing vaginal bleeding, regular painful contractions, or amniotic fluid leakage.

When Not to Exercise

Not all pregnant women are suitable candidates for exercise. Those with conditions like heart disease, restrictive lung diseases, or cervical incompetence should avoid it. Consult a doctor if unsure whether it's safe to exercise, especially if you experience problems like ongoing bleeding or placenta previa.

Moderate exercise during pregnancy benefits both the mother's health and the baby's development. Despite potential challenges, it's a worthwhile choice for most pregnant women.
