From Crawling to Standing: A Guide for Baby's Next Move

TCE Baby08 May 202491

Babies around 8 months old typically begin crawling and exploring new movements like standing. By 9 months, they might pull themselves up using furniture, and by 10-12 months, they can stand independently for a few seconds. To support and encourage babies to practice standing, what can you do? Here are some methods:

1. Strengthening Standing Ability:

   - Encourage standing games: Help your baby stand by holding their fingers or encouraging them to let go of support gradually.

   - Transition from sitting to standing: Place toys on a low table to motivate your baby to stand while sitting on their knees.

2. Safety Considerations:

   - Create a safe environment: Remove obstacles and cover sharp edges of furniture to prevent injuries. Designate a secure play area.

   - Sock-free standing: Barefoot standing helps babies balance better and enhances foot coordination. If concerned about cold floors, use thin non-slip socks.

3. Avoid Overprotection:

   - Let them learn independently: Offer assistance when necessary but avoid excessive intervention.

   - Responding to falls: Observe your baby's reaction to falls. If they seem unbothered, allow them to continue exploring. Offer comfort and encouragement if they signal distress.

By supporting your baby's standing efforts while ensuring safety and independence, you can facilitate their developmental milestones effectively.
